Fame vs. Success: Which is Better? | Insights by Kapeel Gupta

Most people have been made to believe that being successful is all about fame, popularity, or being a celebrity.

You might be thinking, “Yes, that’s the truth.”

But that is just your idea of success and one you might want to change.

Look at it this way

You are not a failure if you do not attain popularity! Being famous doesn’t mean you’re successful.

Everyone wants to be famous and be known for something big, even I would love to be known like the famous trainer Siddharth Rajsekaran or study abroad expert, and that is a totally awesome wish.

Today I am going to discuss the difference between fame and success. I believe this will help you a great deal in deciding what you want from your life.

For all the new viewers, Let me introduce myself.

Hello all, I am Kapeel Gupta, founder of study abroad academy. I am on a mission to coach and mentor 100,000 high school students and help them realize their dream of studying in the best universities of the world and build happy & successful careers for themselves.

Today we are discussing about fame and success. People usually treat them as synonymous. Let’s know what is the difference between the two. So, let’s get started.

Actually, mindset is everything because everyone has their own unique path to follow and so do you. So, success for everyone isn’t always about popularity.

One big truth why famous people aren’t always successful because

Success is achieved on a daily basis.

Life isn’t lived only for the big things that happen to us; life is also about the little things we fail to count which eventually become carefully knitted together to bring about the “great achievements” we would willingly feel pleased to recognize.

We might have a few milestones to boast about that you consider are just ‘top of the world’ kind of things, but small achievements that actually led to that big achievement are ignored. The truth is, that small achievements actually keep us happy on a day-to-day basis. They keep us motivated to do more.

Neglecting what you call your “little successes” isn’t a good way to approach success neither will it take you to the point of becoming a great achiever.

Only when we are grateful for those little achievements we’ve made, can bigger things happen for us.

You are not successful only when you become famous or when you’re getting all the followers and likes from fans on social media…

No! That’s a totally wrong mindset.

Getting likes or getting checks?

Success is not all about positions attained. Booker T. Washington, The Great American Educator once said “I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed.”

Success is achieving those things which you were made for and whether or not you get famous at it, your sense of fulfillment is all that matters.

A scribe once said, “Do not neglect the days of your little beginnings.”

Every great person today started small, and they wouldn’t have achieved their goals if they had neglected the little success they made on their way to the top.

Many tried and didn’t succeed in a big way. They didn’t sit in their lack of success, but found the strength to keep going, and that is why they are celebrated today.

If you want to be celebrated too, focus on managing your own obstacles and limitations so you can rise to the top if that’s where you feel you belong.

Popularity doesn’t equal success

Think of this critically, and you will understand.

Popularity is not success, and it should not come before success, if it does, you’ll only be hurting yourself because maintaining a high profile will require a lot from you, and if you don’t have a lot or if you’ve not made a lot of money, you wouldn’t be able to keep up.

Bring it low for now while focusing on succeeding in your business or career. Then when you attain success, your fame will naturally spread.

Make your choice now and be clear about what you want.

The number of likes and followers you get? Or the amount of money you get in being able to meet your needs and the contentment you’ll experience in fulfilling your dreams?

Don’t be fooled by the likes. There has been a diverse story of famous people who later went bankrupt or ended up committing suicide.

These are males and females who think they have caught the bull by the horns, but somehow things take a turn and the horns slip away.

What is right is not always popular, and what is popular is not always right said Albert Einstein. A good quote to remember.

Focus on the change and Impact you can make to the human race, because at the end of the day people won’t remember you for how popular you become. What sticks in the heart of people instead is the legacy you built.

You can do this.

Or as Tab Hunter, an American actor and I shouldn’t say just this. He was actually a heart throb in the 1960’s and 1970’s once put .” I don’t care whether people like me or dislike me. I’m not on earth to win a popularity contest. I’m here to be the best human being I possibly can be.”
